Founded in May 1955, Sinopec Maoming Petrochemical Company was among the 156 key national projects during China’s First Five-Year Plan. It originated from the mining of oil shale and processing of synthetic oil. It is China’s first ten-million-ton refinery, first million-ton ethylene complex, the country’s most integrated fuel-lubricant-chemical refinery, the second refining and chemical enterprise in China with annual profits exceeding RMB 10 billion, and the core leading enterprise of Guangdong’s green petrochemical strategic industrial cluster.

Over 70 years of development, especially the high-quality growth achieved since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the company now boasts a crude oil processing capacity of 18 million tons per year and an ethylene production capacity of 1 million tons per year. It is equipped with comprehensive supporting facilities including thermal power plants, ports, railway transportation, crude oil and product oil pipelines, as well as a 300,000-ton single-point mooring offshore crude oil receiving and unloading system. As one of China’s state-owned refining and chemical enterprises with the largest production scale, soundest economic benefits and most solid development foundation, it serves as a major supplier of refined oil products, chemical feedstocks and military fuels for South China and Southwest China, a critical pillar safeguarding national energy security, and a pacesetter for high-quality development among state-owned refining and chemical enterprises. As of the end of 2025, the company had 7,601 registered employees.
