Official Establishment of Maoming Petrochemical
As one of the 156 key national construction projects under China’s First Five-Year Plan, Maoming Petrochemical was formally founded. Starting with oil shale exploitation and synthetic crude oil production, it embarked on the development journey of independently building large-scale petrochemical enterprises in New China.
Transformation from Shale Oil Refining to Crude Oil Processing
The first atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit was completed and put into operation, marking a historic shift of the enterprise from "shale oil refining" to "natural crude oil processing" and laying a foundation for the development of modern oil refining industry.
Founding of Maoming Petroleum Company
The enterprise was renamed Maoming Petroleum Company under the Ministry of Petroleum Industry, signifying the completion of its preparation phase and ushering in a new era of large-scale construction and production operation.
Affiliated to China National Petrochemical Corporation
The enterprise came under the administration of the newly established China National Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec), kicking off a new stage of modern corporate management and integrated refining & chemical development.
Commencement of 300,000 Tons/Year Ethylene Project
Construction of Maoming Petrochemical’s 300,000 tons/year ethylene project officially broke ground, marking the enterprise’s full entry into the large-scale petrochemical industry.
Commissioning of the Ethylene Project
The 300,000 tons/year ethylene unit was successfully completed and put into production, further improving the integrated refining and chemical industrial chain and greatly boosting the enterprise’s comprehensive competitiveness.
Completion of China’s First 10-Million-Ton-Level Refining Base
A 5-million-ton/year atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit was commissioned, lifting the enterprise’s refining capacity to 13.5 million tons per year. Maoming Petrochemical became China’s first 10-million-ton-level refining base.
Restructuring and System Reform under Sinopec
Alongside Sinopec’s overall IPO, Maoming Petrochemical completed restructuring and system reform, forming a new institutional framework featuring coordinated development between the Group and the listed subsidiary.
Launch of Million-Ton Ethylene Expansion & Renovation Project
The 1-million-ton/year ethylene expansion and renovation project was officially launched, laying a solid foundation for building a world-class ethylene production base.
Completion of China’s First Million-Ton-Level Ethylene Plant
The 1-million-ton/year ethylene project was commissioned, making Maoming Petrochemical China’s first million-ton-level ethylene production base and further elevating its competitiveness in the petrochemical sector.
Refining Capacity Surpasses 20 Million Tons Per Year
A 10-million-ton/year atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit was put into operation, raising the enterprise’s primary crude oil processing capacity above 20 million tons per year, ranking it among China’s top three refiners with such capacity.
Commissioning of China’s Largest Coal-to-Hydrogen Unit
China’s largest coal-to-hydrogen facility went into service, providing strong support for stable operation of refining and chemical units as well as the development of clean energy.
Establishment of South China’s Largest Clean Energy Production Base
Relying on its complete refining and chemical industrial chain and continuous technological upgrades, Maoming Petrochemical grew into South China’s largest clean energy production base.
Operation of the World’s Largest Slurry-Bed Residue Hydrotreating Unit
The world’s largest 2.6-million-ton/year slurry-bed residue hydrotreating unit was commissioned, greatly enhancing the enterprise’s capacity for efficient and clean heavy oil processing and resource utilization efficiency.
Kickoff of Refining Transformation & Ethylene Quality Upgrade Project
The Refining Transformation and Ethylene Quality Upgrade Project officially started construction, launching Maoming Petrochemical’s fourth leapfrog development and advancing toward a high-end, intelligent and green refining & chemical base.
70th Anniversary of Foundation, Marching Toward High-Quality Development
